The Games Creator

The Games Creator is a full fledged
game generator which even a novice
can use to generate arcade quality
games. However, games created with
the Games Creator are not self
contained - meaning they require the
main program (The Games Creator) in
order to run. Therefore, any games
created can not be sold, given away,
traded, etc...
Barring this shortcoming, the
program is excellent in creating
games which use multi-color animated
sprites, hi-res background, sound
effects, and background music. The
games can vary from a 'bouncing' type
game (e.g. Donkey Kong) to a shooting
type game (e.g. Defender).
The only other limitations to this
program are that the games are
restricted to a single screen (either
stationary or scrolling) and the
game's intelligence. The alien
sprites are limited in either a
pre-programmed movement or a random
movement. They can be programmed to
move based on the players movement.
Other than this, the Games Creator
is well done. The instruction manual
is fairly well detailed although it
lacks in the 'HOW-TO' on actually
creating a game; but, the disk comes
with three excellent, though simple,
games which illustrate the program's
versatility. To create a game, the
program must first be cleared of the
existing game (loaded at the same
time as the program). When using the
program, it is a good idea to erase
everything (sprites, backgraound,
hi-res characters, music) and then
save this blank game on disk so you
won't have to go through the lengthy
process of clearing everything every
time you create a new game.
Creating a game with the Games
Creator is quite easy (though time
consuming) as the user is presented
with numerous menus to select the
various options of game play. The
real chore is creating the many
sprites needed and the hi-res
characters for the background
scenery. No programming knowledge is
requires to use the Games Creator
(except to load the program
initially) - all that is needed is a
joystick (to select each program
module) and the keyboard (which you
have already).
The Games Creator is easy enough
for a novice to use as well as being
good enough for the expert programmer.
